First Session – In-character synopsis

We were all there, seated at the appropriately low table of our host, Khiant Kardeh Nanpanjar. Of course, we had been introduced to each other long prior, but with our first task so close by on the horizon, I will go over our party of six once more:

  • Master Baltazar Nanpanjar, the younger brother of our host and patron.
    • He is said to believe that nothing is more important than family
    • When presented with a dilemma, they say he prioritizes the future and long-term benefits. “It’s important how people remember you” is a quote often attributed to him
    • They say he’s destined for greatness
  • Master Patrourou, the Wizard
    • He’s said to have finished his wizardly education in record time
    • Others say he called his previous patron a “dumb ape”, in his face…
    • Then again, he’s said to master more than five languages
  • Master Artifex Aurum, the Inventor
    • He designs buildings that are highly efficient, but not the prettiest
    • He also works as a blacksmith for the artisans guild
    • They say he used dark magic to make his golem companion
  • Master Myr’ruvain, the Tribal Druid
    • He was born under the brightest phase of the moon
    • He lost his herd to a wild animal
    • He thanks his life to the Northern Tribe, the Şimal
  • Master Zemaya Yutori, the Ring Fighter
    • She started her career in the Fighting Rings at the low age of seventeen
    • Once, while stealing food from a noble or rich family, she liberated the domestic animals
    • She used to live on the streets with her brother
  • And of course myself, the humble servant Etaoin Shrdlu
    • My family gave me away to serve at a noble family at the age of four
    • At the age of eleven, I was present at my own funeral
    • I have, until now, never harmed anyone, be it mentally or physically

The food chosen was appropriate for a meeting between people of such high birth as the Nanpanjars (members of the three patriarchal families of our city of Shmal) and lowly adventurers such as most of ourselves. Nothing too fancy, but still well-prepared and the cook even added some sugar to some of the foodstuffs.

The meeting went on for several hours, during which I mingled with the servants for a while because it would be inappropriate for me to sit at the same table as the others for the entire time. When it was time for the important details of our mission to be discussed, I was called back to the dining table, as customary.

We were tasked to travel to the Golden Monasteries of Jeythel-mal, named after the golden yellow flowers blossoming all around the hills upon which they were built generations ago. There, we were to forge a contract for our noble Patron, granting the Nanpanjar family access to the honey and other goods produced by the monks. A possible complication was the recent development of unknown representatives of Tengah, west of the Golden Hills, trying to gain a monopolist position concerning these goods.

We discussed the costs of travel and were presented with some sealed jewellery boxes (Shmal’s primary export) to pay for the contract, as well as an opal to trade for a restock at the Nine Fortresses of Magolivernaham, specifically the one representing Shmal, of course. Fresh rations and water are of course vital for a caravan’s existence, as are well-bred mules to travel the distance along us. Everything was soon to be taken care of, giving us two days to prepare for the journey, during which I myself tried to convince the mule merchant to sell us a particularly pale mule, as my God, Ilmater, is said to favor white donkeys. While I only managed to acquire just one of this particular breed, the merchant also handed me a letter, to be presented to his cousin at one of the Golden Monasteries. The merchant would really appreciate it if said cousin would write back to his family, so I might need to persuade him to do that.

Guided by Master Patrourou’s owl familiar in the skies and my own Unseen Servant on the ground, I write this journal after our first week of travel. So far, Master Zemaya Yutori has hunted a deer, saving us some rations and aiding our resolve as fresh meat is a welcome change to the rather bland trail mix we brought. We also came across some of the Kruthik that Master Myr’ruvain had informed us about. These burrowing creatures have been sighted north of the Nine Fortresses as of recent, prompting one to assume they have been driven away from their usual habitat.

The Kruthik had prepared an ambush on the middle of the road. While we caught sight of them before they attacked us, other caravans might not be so lucky, so we chose to exterminate the threat for them and take the creatures’ heads as proof, hopefully granting us access to some more information and, perhaps, goods, at the Nine Fortresses. Most of my fellow adventurers were hurt during the battle, so I tried my best to patch them up for the remainder of our journey to the Nine Fortresses. In retrospect, I should probably have used some restorative magics as well, of which I will have to think next time we encounter the local wildlife.

We expect to take another week to a week and a half to arrive at the Nine Fortresses, where we will restock and potentially rest before continuing to the Golden Hills.
